International Falcon Race organization

Falconrace.BE is a non-profit organization and the Belgian branch of Falconrace.cz. We maintain close ties with the IFFSR (International Federation for Falconry Sport and Racing). Our mission is to preserve and promote falconry as intangible cultural heritage with a modern approach and to protect birds of prey and their natural habitat. We organize and support falconry races, educational initiatives, and collaborations within the falconry community.

What is falconry and falconry racing?

Falconry is an ancient tradition where birds of prey are trained for hunting. Falconrace offers a modern approach to this art by organizing competitions that serve as training for the hunting season and as social gatherings for falconers.
The Telwah race, invented by the Arabs, consists of a straight sprint:

  • 400 meters for falcons
  • 100 meters for desert hawks with a lure machine

These races simulate hunting, improving the birds' fitness and overall physical condition, making them the perfect preparation for the hunting season.

How did Falcon Race as an organization originate?

The origins of bird of prey racing lie in the Middle East, where the Telwah race was developed to test the speed and agility of falcons. Later, the English began organizing races in Vowley. In 2023, the Czechs were the first to introduce these races to mainland Europe. After the founders of Falconrace.BE became regular participants in these competitions, we established the Belgian branch to further promote and support this sport.
